Misty dawn on the Appian Way: solitary pine trees guarding the magic landscape; the muffled, ceaseless rhythm of unending footsteps. Trumpets sound and, in the brilliance of the newly-risen sun, Roman legions march forth along the Sacred Way, mounting in triumph to the Capitol.
There is an upcoming Brass Band World Survey of the Top Ten Brass Band Concert Pieces. I wonder how this one gets on, if at all. For the reason that almost all bands love to have this work in their repertoire, I am grading this as a 2.
