These two excerpts mark the beginning (The Prelude) and the end (The Liebestod, the love-death) of the opera. Every element of the music is rich and complex, both to listen to and to perform. Widely regarded by many as a key score in music history, on the other hand Tristan is equally called tedious and derided by others. It sounds immense on brass, especially with massed bands.
